ABOUT US
Committee
Stephen McCrory
Chairman
Achim Gloger
Secretary
Stephen is that rare breed, a triathlete who can actually ride a bike in a straight line. In September 2023 he cycled the length of the Rhine. This sounds more ambitious than it actually is: it's all downhill - because water only flows downhill. He is agnostic about bicycle types, switching between his road bike, his hybrid, his Brompton when commuting, or his wife's ebike when he's tired.
Achim is a life-long cyclist. He is Level 2 British Cycling coach and also the only world champion among our membership, having won, to his and his team's surprise, the Veteran's Category of the 2013 Brompton World Championships at the Goodwood Racetrack - on a 2-speed bike, no less!
Alison McWhinney
Gals on 2 Wheels / Safeguarding Officer
Peter Lyons
Treasurer
Alison uses her Italian Cyclo Parma shopping bike (complete with basket and panniers) for errands around Bangor. She also uses her Brompton to explore far-away greenways.
At the 2014 Brompton World Championships at Goodwood Motor Circuit she finished first in the "Dirndl Class".
Peter is one of the founding members of our group. A life-long resident of the City of Bangor, he has seen and adopted to many changes. As keen cyclist he straddles the sometimes vast gorge between leisure and competitive cyclists, adding a sense of balance to our mission.
Nathan Booth
Membership Secretary
Nathan embodies Active Travel and multi-modal transport, using his bike and the train to commute from Bangor into Belfast. He has set up an Active Travel group at QUB.
John Wright
Publicity Officer
John has forgotten more about Belfast traffic issues than most DfI employees have ever known. He goes everywhere on his bike and has a clean driving license - because he doesn't own a car. John is a very active and effective environmental campaigner.
Keith Lilley
Social Media Coordinator
Like Nathan, Keith has adopted multi-modal travel to commute into Belfast from Bangor. He knows how to read a map - which he should, given that the Royal Geographical Society commended him for "advancing geographical knowledge through [...] GIS* and mapping."
Brian Carson
Social Secretary
Brian is the cool, calm and collected green conscience of our group.
* whatever that is... :-)
